Recycling your laptop: Make money and help the environment

Since 2007 the waste electrical and electronic equipment directive started to rule the recycle of any electronic device.  Usually in most of the cities you can find a place that they will recycle your computer for free, but if we do a little more effort, we can recycle our laptops and maybe get some cash or help somebody else.

Prior recycling your laptop, please delete all your information from it, the problem is you can't erase your files just by dragging them into the recycle bin, you need to hire an expert to kill your files for good. If you do not have top secret files in your computer, you can omit this step.

There is few ways to recycle your laptop and get some money as well.
1. Some retailers will accept your laptop if your computer system is still working. If that's the case, the retailer will give you a discount on your purchase. They usually send the computer to the manufacturer to be recycled.

2. Some places will buy your computer. What they do is instead of recycling the laptop, they will change the used or damaged parts and sell it again, this is call refurbished machines.

3. Sell it online: Some sites like gazelle.com will offer your computer and if somebody wants it,  you can either get a nice check or donate the money to charity.

4. Flea Market: Sell your laptop at these places. Format your thingy, and hit the flea market next sunday. Recycling your laptop will cost you... one afternoon.

Recycling laptops can help you get some money, but is not the only option. If you were thinking in getting rid of your laptop before reading this article, why don't give the money to charity? give away your computer to somebody who doesn't have the money to pay for it.

Recycling laptops is fun, because you are helping the environment, helping your pocket and maybe helping somebody else if you want to. Recycling is becoming a routine and if we recycle and receive a check or a humble "thank you" at the same time, why don't do it?
